Faced with an unintended pregnancy and a lack of local support, Autumn and her cousin Skylar embark across state lines to New York City on a fraught journey of friendship, bravery and compassion.
Drama - Being centered around a teen girl trying to get an abortion, the subject matter alone makes this indie drama not for kids, but the clinical and realistic storytelling makes it of interest to older teens. There is also some language and teen drinking and smoking. There are no known actors in the cast.
PROFANITY: 1 F-word; 1 S-word; one other. SEX/NUDITY: A man touches himself. VIOLENCE: A teen girl hits herself repeatedly, with no blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some alcohol and tobacco, including by teens. ACTION: None. COMEDY: None.
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good And the friendship at the heart of this film, as indelibly portrayed by two brilliant young actresses -- Flanigan is a wonder to behold, while Ryder nails just the right notes of supportive and warmly sympathetic -- is a thing of beauty. Hittman's urgent film is an emotional wipeout. It's hard to watch. It's also impossible to forget.
Slant MagazineFull Review Very Good Driven by the potency of its social intentions, Eliza Hittman's film is so authentically felt that it becomes hyper-real....a nightmarish disquisition about how entire systems are rigged against women that would feel academic if it didn't play out against earnest performances of tender teenage emotions.
