When Gotham's most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya's paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.
Action Adventure Crime - This is a superhero action/adventure comedy centering around the DC Comics character of Harley Quinn, last seen in Suicide Squad. Unlike most DC and Marvel comic book adaptations, this is R-rated due to bloody violence, constant language, some raunchy and dark humor, and drug use, and thus it is not for kids. Fans of Mary Elizabeth Winstead may be disappointed by her limited screen time compared to the other members of the title team, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez; Ewan McGregor fans should be pleased with his change-of-pace villain role.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average Michael Bay-friendly pyrotechnics, and fiery, colorful palette of Harley Quinn and her sidekicks are tailor made for theatrical viewing; this movie will fall apart in even a moderately sophisticated home setting. Birds of Prey is a glorious, hyperkinetic mess and, although it never quite takes flight, it at least holds the attention.
Roger EbertFull Review Good From its lively and vibrant animated opening, Yan's film is a complete blast, filled with zippy energy and irresistible girl power. And Robbie, in her seemingly endless versatility, is up for every challenge in a role that's as demanding physically as it is verbally. She is positively infectious in the candy-colored chaos she creates.
USA TodayFull Review Good Robbie's facial expressions, sheer unpredictability and "Noo Yawk" accent let Harley's persona pop, though she never outshines her co-stars. While "Birds of Prey" is all about that group dynamic, its resident Oscar nominee sparkles as the cuckoo crazy pants center of attention who's the batty wind beneath their wings.
NY PostFull Review Good ...the funniest comic book film since the first "Deadpool"... ...moves at a breakneck pace with a dry, totally unsentimental sense of humor, and it never gets caught up in cliched morals or weighty lessons.
