Stephanie Patrick is an ordinary woman on a path of self-destruction after her family is tragically killed in a plane crash. When Stephanie discovers that the crash was not an accident, she enters a dark, complex world to seek revenge on those responsible and find her own redemption.
Action Drama Mystery - This gritty action thriller is a change of pace for lead Blake Lively, whose fans will enjoy seeing her in a different type of role. The other recognizable faces in the cast, Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown, have much smaller supporting roles. Constant language, violence, and some drug and sexual content make the film not for kids.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Average Unevenly paced and with a miscast lead, the movie fails to get us to care about its automaton main character as she goes through the motions in a generic spy thriller. Spy action-thrillers are supposed to be fun on some level. This one is too much of a chore to properly entertain.
Roger EbertFull Review Average ...despite some impressively inventive camerawork...and a couple of intense action sequences, the film as a whole feels rushed and frustratingly empty. ...the story seems truncated; it's as if he understandably wanted to include as much as possible from his source material, yet still had to work within the constraints of a reasonable running time.
USA TodayFull Review Average Lively pulls off one of her best movie roles so far - ranking up there with her surprisingly delicious shark flick "The Shallows" - and is surrounded by plenty of visual spectacle, yet is waylaid by a narrative that lacks excitement. Even the twists seem painfully ordinary.
NY PostFull Review Below Average The script (by Mark Burnell based on his novel) never really coheres, and whatever momentum the action scenes build is quickly undercut by the endless, gauzy flashbacks of Patrick remembering happier times with her family.
Rolling StoneFull Review Below Average Blake Lively does her best as a woman hellbent on avenging her parents' death, but clichés are the real killer in this formulaic action movie. The problem is the script, written by author Burnell (he has four Stephanie Patrick novels in print to date), whose twists feel generic and narratively lazy.
