American car designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles battle corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.
Action Drama - This is a fact-based period drama centered on auto racing, and so there's a fair bit of action and the pace of the film is swift. Fans of stars Matt Damon and Christian Bale will have a lot to enjoy here. There is frequent strong language and some intense auto racing scenes with crashes, but parents of pre-teens may find this to be generally safe viewing.
PROFANITY: 1 F-word; 27 S-words; 8 GD's; many others. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Brief fighting. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Alcohol and frequent tobacco. ACTION: Lots of auto racing. COMEDY: Some comic lines and exchanges.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good Don't be put off by the lackluster title. This is solid, middle-of-the-road entertainment. Slow patches aside, it finishes strong and, although it probably won't win the box office race, it may generate some Oscar interest (because Bale is almost always good enough to warrant that sort of attention).
Roger EbertFull Review Good You don't need to be a car person to appreciate the conventional but crackling human drama that animates "Ford v Ferrari." ...delivers real cinema meat and potatoes. And its motor show spectacle deserves to be seen in a theater.
NY PostFull Review Above Average Mangold's film has the polished sheen of a "Mad Men” episode. It's at its best when Shelby's going toe to toe with Ford execs, or trying to keep Miles from shooting his mouth off in front of them. Damon and Bale have so much fun together on-screen...
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good Matt Damon and Christian Bale bring the story of two men taking on Europe's domination of the Le Mans race to engine-roaring life. ...Mangold fuels his true-life plot with enough flesh-and-blood action to leave to leave you dizzy.
