Reboot of the 2000 action comedy based on the 1970s television series. A new generation of private detectives working for the mysterious Charlie.
Action Adventure Comedy - This action-adventure is a continuation of the popular '70s-'80s television series and '00s film series, not a reboot, though there is an all new cast. Fans of Kristen Stewart will enjoy this change of pace wisecracking action role. Some familiar faces in the cast such as Djimon Hounsou have only small roles. Language and action violence make the film not for kids, but parents of pre-teens may find this to be fairly safe viewing.
PROFANITY: 11 S-words; a few others. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Fights and shootings with some blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Frequent alcohol. ACTION: Fights, chases, explosions. COMEDY: Banter and wisecracks.
Roger EbertFull Review Good ..."Charlie's Angels" is truly about the women in a way it never has been before, for better and for worse. The girl-power vibe that provides the film's energy is unmistakable and often exhilarating, but it can also be heavy-handed.
USA TodayFull Review Good ...stylish and savvy... This "Charlie's Angels" goes full throttle into the #MeToo era, and having women in all the key creative roles probably took too long, honestly, though the result is a fresh new beginning for an old-school classic.
NY PostFull Review Above Average Scott and Balinska are capable, but bland. The actress who gets most in the oversize spirit of the occasion is Stewart, showing more personality and comic chops than she has before. A signature of these films are its clever disguises and masks. There is just one scene that lives up to that legacy...
Slant MagazineFull Review Below Average The new Charlie's Angels moves well and at least puts forth a semblance of reality, with a few moments hinting at the tense, moody spy thriller it might have been. Yet the dominant strain of its DNA is the Generic Action Movie, and all the feminist virtue-signaling in the world can't conceal its creative conservatism.
