The inspirational true story of one mother's unfaltering love in the face of impossible odds. When Joyce Smith's adopted son John falls through an icy Missouri lake, all hope seems lost. But as John lies lifeless, Joyce refuses to give up. Her steadfast belief inspires those around her to continue to pray for John's recovery, even in the face of every case history and scientific prediction.
Drama - This fact-based drama is also a faith-centered
one, and unlike a lot of Christian films this
features a number of familiar mainstream
actors such as Chrissy Metz, Topher Grace,
Mike Colter, and Dennis Haysbert. While most
families will find this safe viewing and there
is little in the way of what would be
considered objectionable content, scenes of
teens in precarious situations and life or
death danger could be of some concern to
Roger EbertFull Review Below Average It's a strange, almost exclusionary view of how people respond to difficulty. This view only offers sympathy towards those with the "right" kind of faith. For everyone else, it offers pity, disdain or impatience... ... less a story than it is a sermon, aimed directly at the choir and nobody else.
NY PostFull Review Poor It's a harrowing tale that deserves a much better movie than this insipid junk. It's OK that the movie concludes that John was saved by a miracle from God, but the actors practically wink up to the sky every time something good happens. No complexity. It's a very serious, heartfelt story told with the corniest execution imaginable.
