Meet Mr. Link: 8 feet tall, 630 lbs, and covered in fur, but don't let his appearance fool you...he is funny, sweet, and adorably literal, making him the world's most lovable legend at the heart of Missing Link, the globe-trotting family adventure from LAIKA. Tired of living a solitary life in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Link recruits fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost to guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, our fearless trio of explorers encounter more than their fair share of peril as they travel to the far reaches of the world to help their new friend. Through it all, the three learn that sometimes you can find a family in the places you least expect.
Animated Adventure Comedy - This is a stop-motion animated fantasy/comedy
aimed at the family
audience. This is a bit more kid-oriented
than some of the more dark
films that the LAIKA animation studio have
done in the past. Fans of
voice actors Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, and
Zach Galifianakis will
enjoy. There are some moments that may
potentially be scary for only
the very youngest and sensitive of children
and some extremely mild violebce, so parents
this to be generally safe viewing.
PROFANITY: 1 miscellaneous profanity. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Hits and falls without blood, often played for laughs. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some alcohol. ACTION: Chases and fights. COMEDY: Silly banter, wisecracks, slapstick; some toilet humor.
Roger EbertFull Review Very Good It's pretty low-stakes compared to the kinds of movies that end with the fate of the world (or the universe) hanging by a thread, but that's a feature, not a bug, and there are worse things than sending viewers home with smiles on their faces.
Rolling StoneFull Review Above Average You will find yourself preoccupied with the extraordinary quality of the animation, which adds a new sense of seamlessness to the company's signature handmade, hand-moved elements. What you won't be bowled over by, however, is the storytelling, which makes Missing Link the weakest link in Laika's chain of movies to date.
Slant MagazineFull Review Above Average The humor in the film is more wry than gut-busting, but Chris Butler has developed some truly inventive comic characters. ...creative and beautifully rendered sets, which flit through a dozen or so wildly divergent 19th-century milieus...

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
We weren't able to collect but a few reviews for this movie so we can't display the results as we normally do. I can tell you that the kids enjoyed it very much, as could be expected, but the adults were less than impressed. The movie critics rated this movie fairly high, but the four adult reviews we collected didn't enjoy it much. Average to fair were the reviews they provided.
