Hellboy is back, and he's on fire. The legendary half-demon superhero called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue, a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.
Action Adventure Fantasy - This is a reboot of the action/fantasy film
series based on the cult comic book, with
David Harbour taking over the title role from
Ron Perlman. Milla Jovovich fans may enjoy her
change of pace villain role. Constant language
and bloody violence of the hard R variety, as
opposed to the original series' PG-13 tone,
make the film not for kids.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Below Average ...a pointless retread with nothing to recommend it beyond McShane's commanding presence. Comparing it to...2004 original and 2008 sequel is like making an analogy between a Broadway production and a high school stage show. ...it's a chore to sit through
Roger EbertFull Review Below Average "Hellboy” stops being fun when it stops being funny—when it abruptly shifts gears into a more relentlessly bloody, violent mood. And eventually, the film reaches a point of extreme, overindulgent insanity. Even that might have been more tolerable, though, if the action sequences were choreographed and staged in a more thrilling manner.
USA TodayFull Review Average ...this "Hellboy” leans more into super-gory horror comedy than its predecessors, trading nuance for ripped-off limbs and boasting as much subtlety as a stone fist to the face. ...kind of all over the place, with two hours' worth of adventures (and misadventures) that never gel cohesively

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 34 moviegoers:
TEENS: Only one male loved it and three enjoyed it very much. As for the ladies, two loved it and two felt it was just a "good/average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable).
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: We weren't able to collect enough reviews to be real accurate, but those we did collect aren't good at all. Only one enjoyed it somewhat. The others didn't care for it.
ADULTS: Oddly, the adults enjoyed this movie the most and the ladies enjoyed it the same level as the guys. About a third loved it, with another 20%, or so, indicating they enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, most of the remaining 55% felt it wasn't that great of a movie. They rated it just "good/average" (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). Some even rated it lower.
