Horror Mystery Thriller - This spinoff to the
popular Conjuring supernatural horror series may offend
sensitive Catholic audiences audiences due to
its use of the title character as demonic
presence. Bloody violence and disturbing
imagery make the film not for kids. The most
familiar face in the cast is Demian Bichir. This film has more
humor than the others in The Conjuring series.
PROFANITY: 1 S-word; 1 other. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Grabs, stabbings, hangings, hard falls with blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some alcohol. ACTION: Foot chases and destruction. COMEDY: Some banter and wisecracks, often dark.
Roger EbertFull Review Average "The Nun” feels like an empty thrill ride by comparison. Once it stops and you step off, you may still feel a little dizzy, but you'll have forgotten exactly why.
USA TodayFull Review Average ...most of the film is a disappointingly dull and arduous journey until then, a mix of slow-burn religious mystery and old-school adventure that egregiously fails to utilize its greatest hit: Bonnie Aarons' terrifyingly freaky villainess of the cloth.
Rolling StoneFull Review Average A little of this stuff goes a long way, and a lot of this stuff doesn't go very long at all. True horror requires anticipation to work properly, but it's hard to anticipate anything when everything's already being thrown at us. The dread dissipates. Our screams become nothing but weary sighs.
Slant MagazineFull Review Below Average ...essentially a series of disjointed freak-outs and red herrings, feels less like a fully realized horror film than the cinematic equivalent of a Conjuring-inspired maze at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios.
