Chased by a vengeful criminal, the feds and a gang of otherworldly soldiers, a recently released ex-con and his adopted teenage brother are forced to go on the run with a weapon of mysterious origin as their only protection.
Action Sci-Fi - This is an odd science fiction and family drama mix that, unlike the
marketing, leans more toward the latter than the former. The most
recognizable stars, Dennis Quaid and James Franco, have only small
supporting roles, with Jack Reynor and young newcomer Myles Truitt
being the true leads and Zoe Kravitz having a substantial supporting
part. Despite the early-teen lead character, language, violent
content, and brief sensual content makes this not for young kids.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Below Average Summit Entertainment recognizes the film's lack of box office potential. Kin is being weakly marketed and is opening during one of the lowest-traffic theatrical weekends of the year. Its financial failure is preordained but, for something this scattershot and fundamentally unsatisfying, that's nothing less than what it deserves.
Roger EbertFull Review Below Average ...a disjointed and at times off-putting mess that veers wildly and unconvincingly between a road movie, a family drama, a violent crime film and an offbeat sci-fi thriller before arriving at a finale so loopy that even if I spoiled it here and now, many of you would just assume that I was kidding.
Slant MagazineFull Review Poor ...a feature that comprises little more than an extended introduction to its characters, resembles a TV pilot that's been released into theaters as a standalone property. The hole left by the blank, two-dimensional characters can't even be filled by the action, which consistently sets up intriguing scenarios...only to resolve them with a few blasts from Eli's ray gun.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 17 moviegoers:
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: Unfortunately, these few reviews are so mixed they aren't much help. One male loved it, but the other one didn't like it much at all. Same for the females. Two loved it and two didn't enjoy it.
ADULTS: These reviews aren't terrible, but they aren't very good. Just one male loved it with another one enjoying it very much. The remaining three only rated it "good/average," (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). As for the ladies, only one rated it as high as "above average." The rest only rated it "good/average."
