Action Crime Thriller - As with the first film, this is a violent action
film inspired by the '80s television series.
Star Denzel Washington returns, as do supporting
players Melissa Leo and Bill Pullman. Constant
language and brutal violence make the film not
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good The film's slow-burn approach matches that of the original. Fuqua is in no hurry and understands that building a story gradually pays dividends later in the proceedings. Washington's low-key approach to the role helps in this regard, allowing us to become comfortable with his character before all hell breaks loose.
Roger EbertFull Review Below Average ...sadistic, stupid and sloppy sequel. The screenplay by Richard Wenk is a joke, a lame collection of bland characters, nonsensical plotting and revenge-movie clichés that occasionally interrupt the carnage for the uninspired subplot...
NY PostFull Review Poor "The Equalizer” should be locked in a room with "The Terminator.” Then this lousy series would finally be killed off. ...plot holes, trite dialogue and horse-and-buggy pacing. It's your average vigilante justice setup, just without excitement or thrills.
Slant MagazineFull Review Average With no real sense of direction, The Equalizer 2 takes us through the merry-go-round of McCall's life... ...it's only after its first hour that the film blooms into something more than an unremarkable slice-of-life vigilante fantasy...

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 78 moviegoers:
The professional critic reviews range from Poor to Good, which makes them useless. Fortunately, it's clear that the vast majority of moviegoers LOVED THE EQUALIZER 2." Only a small percentage of a few groups rated it as low as "average" (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). "The Equalizer 2" is that rare action movie with a great story and characters you actually care about. Don't Miss It!
