Shaun Russell is a woman who will stop at nothing to rescue her two children being held hostage in a remote house designed with impenetrable security. No trap, no trick and especially no man inside can match a mother with a mission when she is determined.
Thriller - This is a thriller aimed at adult audiences, particularly women.
While rated PG-13, there are a number of scenes of nnot overly
graphic but still intense violence, including scenes of children in
danger and the attempted rape of a teen, that make the film not for
kids. This is a big showcase for star/producer Gabrielle Union, with
all others in the small cast secondary.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average And this thriller is not badly directed. James McTeigue has a fleet, efficient visual style that keeps the suspense set pieces percolating. ...yes, the movie's predictable, and writer Ryan Engle makes a lot of unforced dialogue errors...
Rolling StoneFull Review Poor The listless, leaden acting, writing and direction in this breathtakingly stupid bomb-ola defies audiences to stay conscious through its drag-ass 88 minutes. We suspect Eddie knows he's trapped in a lousy movie and can't wait to break out. Buy a ticket to this dull, dimwitted con job and you'll know the feeling.
Slant MagazineFull Review Poor ...the sort of incompetently constructed thriller that gives B movies a bad name. We rarely feel any suspense because we simply have no concept of where the characters are in relation to one another. Everything here is cloaked in an air of self-seriousness that only serves to highlight the film's lack of inspiration.
NewsdayFull Review Average ...it's a shame the movie itself isn't more fun. Thrillers should be taut and ruthlessly efficient in storytelling. "Breaking In,"doesn't have an ounce of fat on it. We're given only a few minutes of setup before we're thrown right into it. The disappointment of "Breaking In" is the wasted potential...
