Movie Type (Genre) Heading
Action Adventure Sci-Fi - This is an effects-heavy science fiction adventure aimed at young adults, especially males with an interest in '80s and '90s pop culture. Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke play the main roles, with the more recognizable older actors in the film such as Mark Rylance and Simon Pegg having only very small roles. Language and some intense but largely bloodless action violence will be of some concern to parents of young children, but most will find this suitable for pre-teens and up.

Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Good ...it is without a question one of the year's most energetic, visually rewarding, and ultimately exhausting motion pictures. I liked the first half of Ready Player One better than the second one. During the first hour, there's a sense of wonder and exploration.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Above Average The action is breathless and non-stop, both in the virtual reality and the reality reality, but wallowing in ‘80s nostalgia is only so much fun for so long... ... a rollicking, name-dropping romp... It's a good moment. The film has a lot of them. There's breathing room for grappling.

NY Post Full Review
Good And if there isn't much of a larger message here — Wade's take-away that "only reality is real” rings a little hollow when his reality is so wrecked — it still makes for a decent escape. ...the '80s-obsessed "Ready Player One” serves up a fun cinematic Easter egg hunt.

Rolling Stone Full Review
Good ...a mindbending joyride that jacks you into a fantasia bursting with CGI wonders, dazzling cyperscapes mixed with live action, hidden Easter eggs and infinite pop-culture shoutouts to the 1980s. As ever, Spileberg is ready to play. Are you? Game on.

OPINION OVERVIEW
The following is the original "What's Worth Watching" write-up for this movie.

Moviegoer Opinions:

Based on a theater exit polling of 99 moviegoers:
GREAT REVIEWS! All ages, both males and females, either loved "Ready Player One" or enjoyed it very much. Only a relatively small percentage rated it as low as "average," (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable).

D ETAILED S TORYLINE
In the year 2045, the real world is a harsh place. The only time Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) truly feels alive is when he escapes to the OASIS, an immersive virtual universe where most of humanity spend their days. In the OASIS, you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone-the only limits are your own imagination. The OASIS was created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who left his immense fortune and total control of the OASIS to the winner of a three-part contest he designed to find a worthy heir. When Wade conquers the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends-known as the High Five-are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS and their world.
