Action Adventure Sci-Fi - Like the first film, this is an effect-heavy science fiction
action-adventure with giant robots and monsters. The few returning
stars from the first film--Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn
Gorman--only appear in a secondary capacity, with a new, younger cast
led by John Boyega being the main concern. The younger ages of the
leads give this added youth appeal, but like the first film, there is
some intense action and mild language that may be of concern for
parents of young kids.
PROFANITY: 2 S-words; 1 GD; a few others. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Fights between robots and monsters. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some alcohol. ACTION: Fights, explosions, destruction. COMEDY: Some banter and wisecracks.
Roger EbertFull Review Average On a craft level, this sequel...isn't terrible. Younger kids might like it... And the cast is filled with actors doing everything they can to make their characters as memorable as possible even when the script (credited to four people) isn't lending them the support they deserve.
USA TodayFull Review Average Even as the film suffers groan-inducing plot turns, Boyega's charisma keeps it watchable... ...ridiculous sequel... ...veers perilously close to Sharknado territory with hammy dialogue... But if rock-'em, sock-'em nonsense is your jam, Uprising has it in spades.
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Poor It is a collection of noises and images and military jargon being oorah-ed at sternum-rattling volume and featherweight CGI destruction and WTF slo-mo sequences and the occasional feeling that you've been cheated...

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 57 moviegoers:
CHILDREN: It's no surprise that all the kids loved "Pacific Rim."
TEENS: Only 40% of the males loved "Pacific Rim." That's a bit low for this type of movie since it is clearly targeted at the teen male age group. Fortunately, another 30% indicated that they enjoyed it very much. The remaining 30% felt it was only an "average" movie. As for the ladies, one loved it and one enjoyed it very much.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: One male loved it, one enjoyed it very much and two rated it just "average." There were no ladies in this group.
ADULTS: Half the males and just over half the ladies either loved "Pacific Rim" or they enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, the remaining 45% to 50% felt it was only an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable).
The rebellious Jake Pentecost
a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure
humanity's victory against the monstrous "Kaiju." Jake has since abandoned his
training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even
more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the
world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father's
legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (RINKO KIKUCHI, Babel)-who is leading
a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As
they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a
global uprising against the forces of extinction.
