Action Adventure - This is a reboot of the action-adventure film series based on the
popular video game, with Alicia Vikander taking over from Angelina
Jolie. Fans of the star will be pleased to see her in a new and
different context, and the female lead gives this film added appeal
to women--though the young adult action crowd in general is the
target. Language is minimal, but there are some intense and
sometimes disturbing moments of danger that could be intense for
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average Viewer reaction to Tomb Raider may vary based on expectations. Those who care more about a cinematic recreation of the video game than a movie that can live and breathe on its own will likely be thrilled with the final result. Those hoping for something a little more along the lines of Raiders of the Lost Ark may find cause for disappointment.
Roger EbertFull Review Good ...through its gracefully executed series of chases and emotional moments, to its finale set on a Pacific island riddled with booby-trapped ruins, "Tomb Raider" is much better and more original than anyone could have expected.
USA TodayFull Review Below Average Alicia Vikander worked herself into hardbody shape for Tomb Raider, which by contrast is a flabby, lazy mess. Video-game adaptations continue to be the action-movie albatross around Hollywood's neck... ...it makes the two earlier (and forgettable) Angelina Jolie films look good.
NY PostFull Review Poor Somehow her hilarious dearth of experience and instantaneous knack for heroics is the least ridiculous thing about "Tomb Raider,” a film so rife with plot holes that it would make a decent pasta strainer.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 54 moviegoers:
CHILDREN: I child loved it, one enjoyed it very much and one felt it was an "average" movie.
TEENS: All five males enjoyed it very much, which is good, but not great since no-one said they loved it. The two ladies did love it.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: The three ladies in this group all felt it was only an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable).
ADULTS: The male and female reviews are almost identical. About 30% of the ladies and 35% of the guys loved "Tomb Raider." Another 40% of both indicated that they enjoyed this movie very much rating it "above average." Most of the remaining 20 to 25 percent felt it was an "average" movie, but a small percentage actually disliked it.
Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer
who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real
focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike
courier, barely making the rent. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins
of her father's global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he's truly
gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara
can't understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.
Leaving everything she knows behind, Lara goes in search of her dad's
last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the
coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be
extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn't be higher for Lara, who-against the
odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit-must
learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this
perilous adventure, it could be the making of her...earning her the name tomb raider.
