A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don't apply.
Adventure Drama Fantasy - This is not the action-driven science fiction film that the marketing
makes it out to be but a much slower moving, darker, more thoughtful
science fiction drama aimed at older adults. Fans of Natalie
Portman, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, and Jennifer Jason Leigh
will enjoy this showcase, but fans of Oscar Isaac may be
disappointed by his very small role. Language, sex, and violence
make the film not for kids.

USA TodayFull Review Very Good ...a beautiful and brutal headtrip exploring the positives and negatives inherent in mankind's evolution, with characters struggling against losing themselves to something alien. ...it's a brainy take on horror tropes, and on the other an empowering female-led mystery with an underlying roller coaster of weird leaving nightmares in its wake.
NY PostFull Review Good This is an unapologetically nerdy film, too, one that relishes the delicate grace of cell division seen under a microscope. There are moments that left me wanting more... Ambitious and messy, "Annhilation” will likely leave you with more questions than answers. Mine is: "When can I see it again?”
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good All the actors come up aces... It's a bracing brainteaser with the courage of its own ambiguity. You work out the answers in your own head, in your own time, in your own dreams, where the best sc-fi puzzles leave things. Get ready to be rocked.
Slant MagazineFull Review Above Average ...handles Annihilation's hallucinatory setting with an appropriate and compelling sense of shifting unreality. But by leaning too hard on Hollywood clichés—and almost tumbling over into sexism—he proves that he wasn't the right writer-director for this particular job.
NewsdayFull Review Good Films as singularly adventurous as "Annihilation” don't come around often. The title refers to total destruction, but what's happening isn't destruction but transformation, mutation. Does a sense of self survive a mutation? Does your soul?

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 33 moviegoers:
TEENS: The one male loved it.
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: One male loved it and the other enjoyed it very much. All four of the ladies indicated that they enjoyed it very much.
ADULTS: Ouch! The adult reviews certainly aren't great. Just over 20% of the females loved it with another 8% rating it "above average," which indicates a movie they enjoyed very much. Unfortunately, another 30% rated it just "average" (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). The remaining 40% actually disliked it with some even hating it. That's definitely not good. The male reviews are only slightly better (a few more enjoyed it and a few less disliked it).
