A gritty crime saga which follows the lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff's Dept. and the state's most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank.
Action Crime Drama - This is not the straight-ahead action film the advertising makes it
out to be but a heist-centered drama that has action in it. As such,
the pace is a bit slower and talkier. Gerard Butler, O'Shea Jackson
Jr., and Pablo Schreiber have the most prominent roles, and 50 Cent's
role is quite small despite his major presence in the marketing.
Alcohol, constant violence and language make the film not for kids.
PROFANITY: Well over 30 F-words; 28 S-words; 1 GD; a few others. SEX/NUDITY: Clothed sexy dancing. VIOLENCE: Shootings, fights. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Alcohol and tobacco. ACTION: Shootouts and chases. COMEDY: Some darkly comic lines.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average "Den of Thieves” never really gets that deep, and turns out not to be all that terribly serious a movie anyway. The various character dynamics are almost a smokescreen for a convoluted heist targeting the only bank in Los Angeles that has never been robbed...
Slant MagazineFull Review Average ...Den of Thieves is unable to bring even a modicum of emotional resonance to these sequences. Den of Thieves displays a reverence for the taut and moody tension-building tactics of Michael Mann's Heat.
