The adventures of a young woman living in Northern California for a year.
Comedy - While a film centered on teenage girl, this comedy/drama is aimed
squarely at adult audiences due to its constant language, sexual
content, smoking and drinking by teens, and various mature themes
such as homosexuality. That said, younger adults,
particularly females, are the target. This is a big starring
showcase for Saoirse Ronan, with other familiar faces such as Laurie
Metcalf playing supporting roles.
Roger EbertFull Review Very Good "Lady Bird” might not be perfect, but it touched many of the right emotional buttons for me. ..."Lady Bird” is occasionally too episodic and obvious... Her film manages to feel like an indie dramedy but powers along like a mainstream film.
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good ...totally irresistible... Greta Gerwig, in a spectacular solo directing debut...has carved a brilliantly hilarious and heartfelt script out of her own teen life. Not a punch is pulled, and sentiment takes a holiday. All that's left is blunt honesty.
Rex ReedFull Review Excellent Self-assured, fastidious, unusual, written with sass and directed with sensitivity and style, Lady Bird is a year-end surprise that lands in 2017's pile of mediocrity like a stray emerald in a pile of discarded rhinestones.
Slant MagazineFull Review Very Good ...an uncommonly nuanced and intelligent film... A uniquely American comedy, Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird is testy, humane, and firmly rooted in its time and place.
