When four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there's enough dancing, drinking, brawling, and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.
Comedy - This is a very raunchy comedy aimed strictly at an adult audience due
to its constant language and risque sense of humor. Fans of the four
main stars, Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith, and
Queen Latifah will have plenty to enjoy here, and there are some
prominent supporting turns by Kate Walsh, Mike Colter, and Larenz
Tate. While women are the primary audience, men will enjoy as well.
PROFANITY: Well over 30 F-words; over 30 S-words; many others. SEX/NUDITY: Graphic sex talk, loudly heard sex, unrelated nudity. VIOLENCE: Comic hits and a big brawl. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Marijuana and constant alcohol. ACTION: A big bar brawl. COMEDY: Raunchy banter and physical gags; toilet humor; drug humor.
Roger EbertFull Review Good "Girls Trip,” with its epic two-hour length, apparently aims to be the "Lord of the Rings” of sisters doing it for themselves, one that gets a whole lot right that the others too often get wrong. ...insanely likable and capable quartet of actresses...
NY PostFull Review Good Now this is how you do a female raunch comedy. Equal parts crass, heartfelt and goofy, "Girls Trip” manages to hit all the right notes. It even pulls off something I thought was impossible: An impromptu dance number that, unlike the one in last month's inferior "Rough Night,” doesn't come off as a contrived time-waster.
Rolling StoneFull Review Good In all the ways ScarJo & co.'s film went wrong (the dead male stripper – ugh!), Malcolm D. Lee's comedy goes hilariously right. The plot may be standard issue, but this quartet of stars is off-the-chain irresistible.
Slant MagazineFull Review Above Average ...you can never be mad at Girls Trip because of how unpretentiously Lee sets up his actors to enjoy their time together. If this isn't by a long shot the best representation of the filmmaker's crowd-pleasing instincts, at least it goes down easy. Easy like a Sunday-morning hangover.
