A couple deals with their cultural differences as their relationship grows.
Comedy Romantic - This romantic comedy is a big showcase for its co-writer/star, Kumail
Nanjiani. Zoe Kazan, Holly Hunter, and Ray Romano have supporting
roles, but substantial ones, so their fans will also be pleased.
Constant language, raunchy humor, and adult situations make the film
not for kids.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Very Good The Big Sick has the qualities that could make it a sleeper hit. It's funny, touching, and perceptive. ...the film works primarily because of its big heart and ability to engage our emotions while not turning off our brains. Too few legitimately funny romantic comedies are also smart. Both deeply personal and universal, The Big Sick is 2017's Little Film that Deserves Great Exposure.
Roger EbertFull Review Very Good ..."The Big Sick” never feels like shameless navel-gazing. The events that ultimately brought the two together are extreme, but the depiction of them always rings true. ...it goes on a tad longer than it should. Some tightening, especially toward the end, might have made a great film truly excellent.
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good Their hilarious and heartfelt script has a rare authenticity that pulls you in and keeps you glued to the screen. Nanjiani is a revelation, investing his role with grit, grace and touching gravity. The Big Sick is the frankest and funniest date movie around, but be warned: You'll laugh till it hurts.
Slant MagazineFull Review Good ...a comedy through and through, but much of it is as sad as you'd expect a story of forbidden romance centered on a comatose twentysomething to be. The Big Sick go beyond the usual duties of the rom-com in the depth of its emotional explorations.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 29 moviegoers:
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: Of the two males, one loved it and one enjoyed it very much, rating it "above average."
ADULTS: These are decent reviews for both the males and females but they aren't great. Approximately 30% of the males and females loved it with another 35% of males and 30% of females indicating that they enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, a fairly large percentage felt it was only an "average" movie (especially the ladies). Surprisingly, 15% to 20% actually rated it "below average." So, I would suggest that you research this movie to determine if it is likely a story you will enjoy because quite a few didn't care much for it.
