Critic's Review Heading

Berardinelli, Internet Critic Full Review
Average If you look hard enough, it's possible to find worthwhile elements in The Book of Henry, an overwrought, tonally inconsistent drama... This film's tone is so inconsistent as to cause whiplash and it frequently substitutes emotional manipulation for intelligence.

Roger Ebert Full Review
Average That the juveniles in the cast are fully capable of carrying much of the emotional weight of this amiably uneven yet thoroughly manipulative tale is a great relief and often a source of joy to watch early on.

Rolling Stone Full Review
Below Average The Book of Henry starts well, begins flirting with absurdity in the middle – and ends in crashing disaster. ...the movie seesaws between dying-child tearjerker and WTF crime thriller...

Slant Magazine Full Review
Poor Schmaltzy, manipulative, and tonally schizophrenic, The Book of Henry is such a monumentally misguided venture that it ends up being oddly, if unintentionally, compelling. It uses the mawkishness of a Hallmark Channel movie as an ironic backdrop for a twisted Hitchcockian thriller.
