A British explorer who journeys into the Amazon at the dawn of the 20th century and discovers evidence of a previously unknown, advanced civilization that may have once inhabited the region.
Action Adventure - While this film has a bit of an adventure premise, overall this is a
fairly slow-moving fact-based drama. While there are a
number of recognizable faces in the film, this is a big showcase for
lead Charlie Hunnam, with others such as Sienna Miller, Robert
Pattinson, and Tom Holland in distinct support. The target audience
is older adults, and language and some violent content make the film
not for kids.
Charlie Hunnam KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD, CRIMSON PEAK Tom Holland LOCKE, HOW I LIVE NOW, THE IMPOSSIBLE Robert Pattinson MAPS TO THE STARS, THE ROVER Director: James Gray THE IMMIGRANT, WE OWN THE NIGHT, THE YARDS
PROFANITY: 1 F-word; 2 GD's; a few others. SEX/NUDITY: Brief non-sexual nudity. VIOLENCE: Hits, combat with some blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Frequent alcohol and tobacco. ACTION: Some war combat. COMEDY: None.
Roger EbertFull Review Very Good It's beautiful to look at but never ostentatiously pretty, and wise about how to use actual historical events as metaphors for basic desires (to succeed, to redeem oneself). The film never forgets that that these were real people whose words and deeds had consequences that should not be swept under the carpet for the sake of a happy ending.
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good Everyone brings their A-game to Gray's haunting and visionary film, a potent provocation that gets under your skin, just as the El Dorado Fawcett imagined got under his. Just try to get it out of your dreams.
Rex ReedFull Review Good A throwback to the good old days when adventure movies had riveting performances, gorgeous camerawork and the ability to tell stories that made sense, The Lost City of Z holds attention and keeps you fascinated.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 32 moviegoers:
This movie didn't receive the high reviews I expected. I suspect the minimal action may be causing some of the lower reviews. This looks like it is an action movie, but it's more of a historical drama.
TEENS: Three males enjoyed "The Lost City of Z" very much with one loving it. Unfortunately, the remaining three felt it was only an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). All four of the ladies rated it "average."
TWENTYSOMETHINGS: The lone male in this group rated it "average."
ADULTS: Two males loved it, one enjoyed it very much, four felt it was just an "average" movie and one disliked it. The female reviews are slightly better. About 40% loved it with another 15% rating it "above average," which indicates a movie they enjoyed very much. The remaining 50% rated it just "average," which isn't a bad review, it just isn't a great review.
