It's 1971, a team of explorers with a company of soldiers are following myth ,legend in the Pacific amindst runors of an island where creatures both prehistoric and monstrous are supposed to live. Soon they come across Skull Island , the very island of lore and legend.
Action Adventure Sci-Fi - This is an effects-heavy action-adventure monster movie. Fans of
previous films featuring the King Kong character will enjoy. All of
the recognizable names in the ensemble, such as Tom Hiddleston,
Samuel L. Jackson, and Brie Larson, are secondary to the monster
mayhem, but their fans will have plenty to enjoy here. There is some
language, an bloodshed is only moderate, but many intense fight
sequences between people, King Kong, and many other giant creatures
may be too brutal and scary for young kids.
PROFANITY: 1 F-word; 9 S-words; 1 GD; a few others. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Violent fights between monsters and people, with moderate blood. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some alcohol. ACTION: Chases, fights with creatures, helicopter crashes. COMEDY: Some banter and wisecracks, often dark.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average As a big-budget B-grade monster movie, Kong: Skull Island is a home run. It offers all the tropes and clichés one expects from this sort of endeavor, sparing no expense when it comes to special effects. As a King Kong movie, however, Skull Island is less successful.
Roger EbertFull Review Good The monsters are brilliantly designed and skillfully animated (except for a few shots where Kong looks a tad cartoony), and the army of visual and sound effects artists convince you that that these CGI titans live and breathe and weigh hundreds of tons.
NY PostFull Review Average The monster battles have enough wow to keep the movie rolling along, but the connective tissue is so thin that it scarcely matters who lives and who gets stomped, eaten, blown up, ripped to shreds or impaled.
