The story of Ray Kroc, a salesman who turned two brothers' fast food eatery, McDonald's, into one of the biggest restaurant businesses in the world.
Drama - This fact-based drama about the creation of the McDonald's fast food
restaurant chain is not an inspirational success story but a dark and
cynical look at business. Fans of Michael Keaton will enjoy this
meaty role while some known actors such as Patrick Wilson, Laura
Dern, and Linda Cardellini have much smaller roles. Language and
adult subject matter make the film not for kids.
Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Good The Founder represents two hours well-spent, especially for anyone with a fascination for complex characters or an interest in the shenanigans that transformed an unpretentious local restaurant into a global force. You probably won't ever again think of McDonald's in quite the same way.
Roger EbertFull Review Good Had "The Founder" focused solely on Kroc's relationship with the McDonald brothers, it might have been one of the great intimate, sour character studies of recent times. Kroc steals the movie from Hancock and Siegel just like he stole McDonald's from the McDonald brothers.
NY PostFull Review Very Good ...this is one of the most thorough and satisfying depictions of business — everything from quality control to cost-cutting and branding — ever put on film. ... this is a thrilling, dynamic, often very funny movie full of fascinating granular detail — a great American story about a great American business.
Rolling StoneFull Review Good Keaton is firing on all cylinders in The Founder and he makes this electrifying film something to see. Set more than a half century ago, The Founder proves to be a movie for a divisive here and now. Step right up. You might just learn something. God help us.
