The story of two Christian missionaries who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor - at a time when Catholicism was outlawed and their presence forbidden.
Drama - This is a long, slow, very serious and dark period drama about
religious issues aimed at older moviegoers. Fans of Andrew Garfield
will savor this major showcase for him. Liam Neeson and Adam Driver
have much smaller supporting roles. Violence and adult themes make
the film not for kids.

Roger EbertFull Review Excellent "Silence" is a monumental work, and a punishing one. It puts you through hell with no promise of enlightenment, only a set of questions and propositions, sensations and experiences.
NY PostFull Review Average "Silence” comes to us billed as 30 years in the making. Unfortunately, it plays like 30 years in the watching.
Rolling StoneFull Review Very Good The issues it raises aren't meant to go down easy. But no one with a genuine belief in the possibilities and mysteries of cinema would think of missing Silence. It's essential filmmaking from the church of Scorsese, a modern master who lives and breathes in the images he puts on screen.
Slant MagazineFull Review Very Good Martin Scorsese crafts a versatile, multifaceted work that encourages serious reflection and contemplation.
