Animated Musical Comedy - This is an animated musical comedy aimed at the whole family,
specifically kids. The PG rating is only due to some brief crude
body function humor that is commonplace for animated features, so
most parents will find this suitable for all ages. Matthew
McConaughey voices the lead character, but fans of others in the
voice cast such as Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, and Taron
Egerton may enjoy more since they also sing a number of songs.
PROFANITY: None. SEX/NUDITY: None. VIOLENCE: Hits and falls, often played for laughs. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: None. ACTION: Chases and destruction. COMEDY: Brief crude humor; constant silly banter, wisecracks, sight gags, slapstick.
Roger EbertFull Review Good Don't go into "Sing” expecting it to be some kind of cartoon answer to "La La Land” with animal wise-crackers stepping in for snappy human toe tappers, despite its similar heartfelt portrayal of the highs and lows of showbiz and sunny candy-hued cityscape.
NY PostFull Review Good The plot meanders along without much in the way of originality: It's all just an excuse to cram in dozens of delightful covers of classic tunes — more than 65 in total. OK by me.
Rolling StoneFull Review Above Average Sing doesn't have the grit or the grace notes of Zootopia, which it resembles only in its concept of an animal kingdom. No potent metaphors here about predators and victims – the film slides by simply by shaking its sillies out. You could do worse.
