Ethan, Isaac and Chris have been friends since childhood, and for a decade, their yearly Christmas Eve reunion has been an annual night of debauchery and hilarity. Now that they're entering adulthood, the tradition is coming to an end, and to make it as memorable as possible, they set out to find the Nutcracka Ball - the Holy Grail of Christmas parties.
Comedy - Like most comedies starring Seth Rogen, this is an often raunchy and
crude holiday-themed comedy aimed at young adults, particularly
males, with a lot of sex- and drug-related humor. Fans of his
co-stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie will also enjoy.
Drug use, sex, and constant language make the film definitely not for
kids, so parents should heed the R rating.
PROFANITY: Well over 30 F-words; over 30 S-words; many others. SEX/NUDITY: Sex with related nudity. VIOLENCE: Some hits. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, mushrooms, steroids. ACTION: Chases, car collisions, explosions. COMEDY: Constant banter and wisecracks, often raunchy; drug humor; crude physical gags; gay humor.
Roger EbertFull Review Above Average ...a well-intentioned comedy with some big laughs and some big misfires, but it ultimately works because Rogen and his well-cast buddies ground it in a way that makes them likable.
NY PostFull Review Poor Usually you have to wait for a sequel to a successful comedy franchise to find something so sweaty, so frantic, so lacking in ideas: As far as bro-gasmic comedies go, file "The Night Before” next to "The Hangover Part III.”
Rolling StoneFull Review Above Average You could find worse escapism for the holidays...it's rowdy fun with a dash of sweetness. So what if this ramshackle farce doesn't always hit its marks. It's got the spirit. Go with it.
