Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
Action Comedy - While this appears to be star Johnny Depp's usually PG-13-level
silliness, the film has an R rating due to a suggestive-to-raunchy
streak in its humor, so parents be warned. Language and violence is
moderate. All of the known stars have fairly substantial roles
except for Jeff Goldblum, who essentially has only a cameo.
Roger EbertFull Review Very Poor ...absolutely bewildering waste of time, talent, energy and money. The thing about bad movies is that in most cases, their badness is fairly self-explanatory in that you can quickly grasp what went wrong with them. "Mortdecai," on the other hand, is one of those rare birds that is so off-putting in so many ways that all I could do for the most part was wonder how so many presumably intelligent people could be persuaded to sign on to produce and appear in something that could not have possibly seemed like anything other than a total mess from its earliest stages.
USA TodayFull Review Below Average Depp's mustached 'Mortdecai' is a piece of low art. ...a whirlwind of horrible British accents, too much gagging, not enough good gags and weak dialogue that, while not exactly terrible, is terribly boring.
NY PostFull Review Very Poor "Mortdecai" is mortdifying, a mortdal sin of a movie that's headed for the cinematic mortduary. Director David Koepp evidently has such confidence in the comedy that he considers the haphazard plot to be incidental, but the two elements are both so boring in their incoherence that they amplify each other's stultifying effects.

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Based on a theater exit polling of 34 moviegoers:
OK, I'll agree that "Mortdecai" is definitely not one of Depp's better movies, but it's certainly not as bad as the critics would have you believe.
TEENS: The one male and two females all loved "Mortdecai."
ADULTS: These reviews show that about half of both the males and females enjoyed "Mortdecai" very much. Another 40% felt it was an "average" movie (enjoyable but nothing special or memorable). What is very unusual is that almost no one rated it above "Very Good" and about 15% indicated that they hated it. So, "Mortdecai" is a bit of a gamble so a lower priced Matinee may be the way to go.
