A resident of a carefully controlled environment hopes to be chosen to go to the "The Island". He soon discovers that everything about his existence is a lie. He is actually a human clone whose only purpose is to provide "spare parts" for their original human counterparts.
Futuristic Action Thriller - This is a sci-fi thriller with some big action sequences, but it
tries to tackle ideas over thrills. As such, it's in a middle
ground where there's too much action for the thinker crowd, too
much thinking for the action crowd.
PROFANITY: 1 F-word, 4 S-words, a few others. SEX/NUDITY: One brief sex scene. VIOLENCE: Fights; hits with heavy objects; stabbings; bloody surgery. DRUGS/ALCOHOL: Some alcohol. ACTION: Many chases by foot and vehicle; fights. COMEDY: Some wisecracks and comic situations.

Berardinelli, Internet CriticFull Review Above Average And watching the movie is akin to eating in that place. It's fast, greasy, and fills an immediate need, but you'd better have the Rolaids handy for the indigestion that follows.
Roger EbertFull Review Good The first half of Michael Bay's new film is a spare, creepy science fiction parable, and then it shifts into a high-tech action picture. Both halves work. Whether they work together is a good question. The more you like one, the less you may like the other. I liked them both, up to a point, but the movie seemed a little too much like surf & turf.
USA TodayFull Review Average Despite all the firepower, the movie is only sporadically exciting. There is a lot of downtime in which to question the logic of the story.

DETAILED OPINIONS

OPINION OVERVIEW The following is the original "What's Worth
Watching" write-up for this movie.
Moviegoer Opinions:
We collected 102 moviegoer opinions. GREAT OPINIONS! Over three-quarters of the opinions in all age and gender groups rated "The Island" "Very Good," or higher, which is outstanding. The only exception is Males 30+. A little over half of them rated it high. However, they were lacking any "Fantastic" opinions and they had a large percentage of "Good" opinions, which is a little low. These two things together aren't good.
My recommendation is to GO SEE "THE ISLAND." The vast majority of you will love it.
Lincoln Six-Echo (McGregor) is a resident of a seemingly utopian but contained facility in the mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to the "The Island”—reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. But Lincoln soon discovers that everything about his existence is a lie. He and all of the other inhabitants of the facility are actually human clones whose only purpose is to provide "spare parts” for their original human counterparts. Realizing it is only a matter of time before he is "harvested,” Lincoln makes a daring escape with a beautiful fellow resident named Jordan Two-Delta (Johansson). Relentlessly pursued by the forces of the sinister institute that once housed them, Lincoln and Jordan engage in a race for their lives to literally meet their makers.
