Ben O'Toole graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2011.

Ben made his film debut in Russell Crowe's, The Water Master (2014). It was filmed in Australia and Turkey. Ben played the character of Henry, the son of Russel Crowe's character, Connor, who returns to the Battle of Gallipoli to find his three missing children. More recently, Ben appears in the movie about World War II, directed by Mel Gibson, Hacksaw Ridge (2016) with Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthingotn and Vince Vaughn. Also, he has just filmed Everybody Loves Somebody and Untitled Detroit Project. In addition, he will appear in the upcoming movie Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

 In 2013, he made his television debut as a recurring character in the popular series Love Child from Nine Network. He played the role of Pete, and starred alongside Jessica Marais, Jonathan LaPaglia and Ella Scott Lynch during each of the three successful seasons. He also appeared on Australian television in Network 7/Shine's mini-series, Peter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door.

In 2015, Ben was on stage during the return of Marshall Napier's Freak Winds, performed at the Old Fitzroy Theater in Sidney. That same year, he appeared in Brendan Cowell's Men (2015). And in 2014 he performed with the Sydney Theater Company in Mojo, and with the Melbourne Theater Company in The Sublime.

 In 2012, Ben returned to Perth to play the role of Mercer Stevens in Boy Gets Girl, directed by Adam Mitchell from the Black Swan Theater Company. The same company that seduced him into the role of Happy in Death of a Salesman.

Ben has also participated in Factory 293, shorts directed by Roderick MacKay and more recently, Problem Day, directed by Matthew Moore.
