LATE NIGHT

EMMA THOMPSON (Katherine Newberry) is one of the world's most critically lauded and respected talents for her versatility in acting as well as screenwriting. She is the sole artist thus far to have received an Academy Award for both acting (Howards End) and screenwriting (Sense and Sensibility). She also received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for the latter film. In 2018 she was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Thompson most recently starred in The Children Act, directed by Richard Eyre. Based on the best-selling novel by Ian McEwan, the film co-starred Stanley Tucci and Fionn Whitehead. She also recently completed work on Men in Black: International, alongside Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth, and is currently working on the BBC One six-part series "Years and Years," written by Russell T. Davies

Thompson's film credits begin with The Tall Guy, her feature debut in 1989, and include The Remains of the Day (Oscar nomination), In the Name of the Father (Oscar nomination), Love Actually, Saving Mr. Banks, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast, Nanny McPhee and Nanny McPhee Returns (screenwriter on both films), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Henry V, Dead Again, Peter's Friends, Much Ado About Nothing, Junior, Carrington, The Winter Guest, Primary Colors, Stranger Than Fiction, Last Chance Harvey, The Love Punch and Brave and Men in Black 3.

Thompson's television credits include "Wit," "Angels in America," "Song of Lunch," "Walking the Dog," "Alfresco" and "Thompson." Her stage credits include New York Philharmonic's staged production of Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd," reprised at the London Coliseum with the English National Opera; "Me and My Girl," first at Leicester and then London's West End; and "Look Back in Anger," at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.

Thompson is president of the Helen Bamber Foundation, a U.K.-based human rights organization that helps rebuild the lives of survivors of gross human rights violations. Three years ago, she joined Greenpeace on its Save the Arctic campaign. Thompson is also an ambassador for the international development agency ActionAid.
